Dress up your Window Space

Dress Up Your Windows

Interior windows aren’t subjected to the same wear and tear as exterior windows. If you have a small closed-in room, a great way to make it feel larger and appear lighter is to open it up visually with an interior window treatment. With just a few straightforward touches you can completely change the feeling of your room.

One way to do this is to put the emphasis on as much natural light as possible with fresh and airy window coverings.

Drapes

Drapes add softness to a room and work well with any space that has windows with no radiator’s underneath. When choosing drapes. All draperies and window treatments should be lined or backed in white fabric so when looking at the windows from the outside of the house everything matches.  Try layering window treatments, for example, in living rooms, woven roman shades paired with drapery panels work well. They provide a light filtering option for watching TV and night privacy without feeling blocked in by closed drapes.

Roman shades

Another popular design is fabric and woven roman shades.  These are great for spaces like children’s rooms, kitchens, bathrooms; as well as any other windows where there are radiators below, or adjacent walls too close for drapery hardware to be put up. Roman shades are an excellent choice to treat a row of windows that are close together, and they will also work well for smaller windows. Roman shades give a contemporary feel thanks to their clean minimal look.

Valances

Valances are somewhat similar to roman shades but aren’t operable and therefore use less fabric than a real roman shade that goes up and down.  They are used to conceal windows that have roller shades in them. Crisp linen has a timeless classic look. It allows natural light to come in, and white linen creates a subtle luxurious feel in any room.

Honeycomb blinds

These blinds, sometimes referred to as cellular shades are a versatile window treatment. They can be hung by themselves for a contemporary look; or layered with other treatments to provide additional insulation for your windows. They can be cordless, corded, remote and top down or bottom up, to best suit your needs.

Roller blinds

Plain patterned or textured; these blinds are simple and functional as well as economical. They can be fixed inside or outside the mount. They are available in materials that can be wiped clean, making them ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. They also come in a range of colors that look great layered in a more traditional style or by themselves.

Finishing touches

Accessories give your windows a personal feel. Rails and rods come in brass, iron and silver. Chose whichever metal complements the fabric that you are using. There are finials which have intricate designs, giving an elegant feel; or just simple plain ones. Coordinate with holdbacks, fancy brackets and connectors, curtain rings and draw rods.

There are so many ideas to dress up your window space; all that you have to do now is decide which designs go best with your home and your personality.
